What Forms Does This Medication Come In?

Each white, scored tablet, imprinted with "ZADITEN," contains 1 mg of ketotifen fumarate. The inactive ingredients include calcium hydrogen phosphate, magnesium stearate, and maize starch.

Tablets

Each 5 mL of the delicious strawberry-flavored syrup delivers 1 mg of ketotifen fumarate. Non-active ingredients in the syrup include alcohol, citric acid, methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, propyl-p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium phosphate, sorbitol solution, strawberry flavor, sucrose, and water.

Are There Any Special Warnings or Precautions?

Prior to starting this medication, it's crucial to inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions, allergies, ongoing medications, pregnancy status, and other relevant health details that may affect your treatment.

If you have diabetes, please note that the syrup version contains 4 grams of carbohydrates per 5 mL. Rare instances of low blood cell counts have been reported in patients taking both antidiabetes drugs and ketotifen. If you have any concerns, reach out to your healthcare provider.

Diabetes:

Ketotifen may cause drowsiness. Parents and guardians should monitor children for signs of drowsiness when starting treatment and ensure they avoid potentially dangerous activities until their response to the medication is known.

Drowsiness/Revised Alertness:

Do not abruptly stop using existing asthma medications (like b2-agonists such as salbutamol; sodium cromoglycate; corticosteroids such as beclomethasone, budesonide, and fluticasone) when beginning ketotifen. Follow your doctor's guidance closely.

Other Asthma Medications:

Ketotifen may increase the risk of seizures, particularly in individuals with a history of seizures. If you or your child have had seizures before, consult your doctor regarding how this medication might affect the condition and whether any special monitoring is required.
