Yaz is primarily recognized as an oral contraceptive pill, but its benefits extend beyond birth control. This innovative formulation not only helps prevent pregnancy but also addresses hormone-related issues, including the management of menstrual cycles, reduction of menstrual flow, and minimizing the risk of ovarian cysts. With its unique blend of estrogen and progesterone, Yaz plays a vital role in maintaining a balanced reproductive health.
Approved for alleviating symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), Yaz offers support for women who choose oral contraceptives. However, it is important to note that the effectiveness for PMDD after three menstrual cycles has not yet been evaluated.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV), PMDD is characterized by symptoms such as severe depression, anxiety, mood swings, and irritability. Additional signs may include diminished interest in daily activities, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, appetite fluctuations, sleep disturbances, and feelings of losing control. Physical manifestations can encompass breast tenderness, headaches, musculoskeletal pain, bloating, and weight gain. These symptoms often emerge during the luteal phase and typically subside a few days after menstruation starts, significantly affecting daily life, including work, academic performance, and social engagements. Healthcare professionals diagnose PMDD based on DSM-IV criteria, assessing symptoms over at least two menstrual cycles while ruling out other cyclical mood disorders.
Notably, Yaz has not been evaluated for treating premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
How to Use Yaz: For optimal results, take one tablet daily at the same time. Remember that missed doses or incorrect usage can lead to reduced effectiveness. To maximize contraceptive and PMDD benefits, follow the sequence on the blister pack. If you forget a pill, take it as soon as you remember.
Starting Yaz: You can begin taking Yaz either on the first day of your menstrual period (referred to as Day 1 Start) or on the first Sunday after your period begins (known as Sunday Start).
