Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as Somatomedin C, is a hormone closely resembling insulin in structure. It plays a vital role in childhood growth and exhibits anabolic effects in adults.

IGF-1 is one of several essential growth factors necessary for normal human development, primarily produced in the liver but also synthesized in various tissues throughout the body.

This hormone consists of 70 amino acids and, similar to insulin, features an A and B chain linked by disulphide bonds, along with a C peptide region containing 12 amino acids.

USAGE

Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) is crucial for promoting healthy bone and tissue growth while also helping to lower blood sugar levels. Known for targeting fat cells, IGF-1 enhances fat metabolism, promoting lean body mass and reducing fat, which is highly sought after by athletes and bodybuilders. Elevated levels of IGF-1 often lead to weight gain, primarily due to increased lean body mass rather than fat accumulation.

IGF-1 is popular among the bodybuilding community and fitness enthusiasts alike, as it aids in faster recovery post-workout and enhances energy levels during exercise.

Commonly prescribed for both children and adults with growth hormone deficiencies, IGF-1 is rich in vital amino acids that support children experiencing slower-than-normal growth and can supplement adults lacking in sufficient hormone levels.

Research suggests that the anabolic properties of IGF-1 may stem from its ability to reduce protein breakdown and enhance protein synthesis within skeletal muscle, aiding in the healing of skin burns and other tissue abnormalities.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Naturally occurring in human blood, IGF-1 primarily regulates the effects of growth hormone in the body, facilitating tissue and bone growth. Produced in various tissues in response to circulating growth hormone, IGF-1 stimulates overall body growth and exerts a positive effect on nearly every cell type, particularly in bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle, liver, kidney, nerve, skin, and lung tissues. Beyond its insulin-like effects, IGF-1 also modulates cellular DNA synthesis.

ADMINISTRATION

IGF-1 is typically administered via subcutaneous injections in a fleshy area, such as the stomach or abdomen, and can also be given intramuscularly.

ADMINISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Before administering IGF-1, ensure you use a sterile syringe:

  1. Position the IGF-1 vial upright and insert the syringe into the center of the cap.
  2. Pull back the plunger to draw the correct dose (refer to the 'Dosage' section below) into the syringe, then carefully remove it.
  3. Clean the skin area with alcohol prior to injection.
  4. Pinch the skin around the injection site, leaving approximately 2 cm on each side.
  5. Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle to the skin and quickly insert it.
  6. Push the plunger down completely until the syringe is empty, then withdraw it carefully.
DOSAGE

For promoting lean muscle growth and fat loss:

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE:
  • Men: 40 mcg - 50 mcg daily
  • Women: 10 mcg - 20 mcg daily

Do not exceed two injections of IGF-1 per day. A typical IGF-1 dosage cycle lasts between 2 to 12 weeks. Children and adults prescribed IGF-1 for growth deficiencies should consult with a healthcare provider for appropriate dosing.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects associated with IGF-1 may resemble those linked to other growth hormones. Possible effects include abnormal tissue growth (acromegaly), joint, liver, and heart damage. Users may experience joint and muscle pain, headaches, nausea, and lower blood glucose levels, which can lead to hypoglycemia. Research has also associated IGF-1 with an increased risk of certain cancers, including lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers.
