Are you struggling with knee pain caused by joint inflammation, specifically osteoarthritis? This targeted medication is designed for individuals who haven't found relief from traditional treatments such as acetaminophen, physical therapy, or exercise. Hyaluronate, also known as hyaluronan, mimics a natural substance found in your joints. It works effectively as both a lubricant and shock absorber, promoting smoother knee movement and significantly reducing discomfort.
UsesBefore you begin treatment with hyaluronate, and each time you receive a refill, please consult the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your healthcare provider. Should you have any queries or concerns, don?t hesitate to reach out to your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.
How to Use OstenilYour healthcare professional will administer this medication through an injection directly into the affected joint, typically on a weekly basis. It's important to avoid using skin disinfectants containing ammonium salts (like benzalkonium chloride) at the injection site. Your doctor may need to drain excess fluid from the joint prior to the injection. The exact dosage will be tailored to your medical condition and response to the treatment.
Please note that hyaluronate injections should never be given into a vein or artery due to the risk of increased side effects.
After receiving the injection, it's advisable to avoid activities that may put excessive strain on your knee?such as jogging, playing tennis, heavy lifting, or standing for extended periods? for at least 48 hours. You might initially experience increased pain and swelling following the injection; if these symptoms persist or worsen, please contact your doctor immediately.
Consistency is key! It's crucial to keep your scheduled injections, as it may take up to three doses to fully experience the medication's benefits. Inform your doctor if your condition remains unchanged or worsens.
Common side effects may include pain, swelling, redness, warmth, bruising at the injection site, or headaches. If any of these symptoms persist or escalate, please notify your doctor or pharmacist without delay.
Side EffectsRemember, your doctor has prescribed this medication because they believe the benefits outweigh any potential side effects. Many individuals using this treatment do not experience serious adverse effects. However, if you experience severe side effects such as back pain, intense headaches, rapid or pounding heartbeats, fever, or tingling skin, it?s essential to contact your doctor right away.
While severe allergic reactions to this medication are rare, seek immediate medical help if you notice any signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as rash, itching or swelling (especially around the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
