SUBSTANCE
IGF-1 DES
Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), also known as Somatomedin C, is a vital hormone that shares a similar molecular structure to insulin. It plays an essential role in growth during childhood and delivers powerful anabolic effects in adults, making it a key player in muscle development and recovery.
Produced mainly by the liver and in various tissues, IGF-1 is one of many growth factors critical for normal human development. Its structure comprises 70 amino acids, with an A and B chain connected by disulfide bonds, complemented by a C peptide region containing 12 amino acids.
UsageIGF-1 is instrumental in fostering healthy growth and development of bones and tissues, while also helping to lower blood glucose levels. It enhances the utilization of fat cells, promoting fat loss and increasing lean body mass?benefits that are particularly valued by athletes and bodybuilders. Elevated levels of IGF-1 are linked to weight gain primarily from lean muscle rather than fat accumulation.
This hormone is a favorite among bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts, as it aids in hastening recovery times and enhances energy levels during workouts. IGF-1 is often prescribed to both adults and children facing growth hormone deficiencies. For children with developmental delays, IGF-1 provides essential amino acids, and it can effectively supplement adults as well.
Research suggests that the anabolic effects of IGF-1 may be attributed to its ability to inhibit protein breakdown and stimulate protein synthesis in skeletal muscle, potentially facilitating the healing of burns and other tissue injuries.
Mechanism of ActionAs a naturally occurring hormone in human blood, IGF-1 mainly regulates the functions of growth hormone, contributing to tissue and bone growth. It is generated in various tissues in response to growth hormone circulating in the bloodstream.
IGF-1 supports overall body growth and has stimulating effects on most cell types, including those found in bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle, liver, kidneys, nerves, skin, and lungs. Along with its insulin-like properties, IGF-1 is crucial in regulating cellular DNA synthesis.
AdministrationIGF-1 is typically administered via subcutaneous injection into a soft area of the body, such as the abdomen, but can also be given intramuscularly.
Method of Administration:Before using IGF-1, ensure you have a clean and sterile syringe.
- Hold the IGF-1 vial upright and insert the syringe into the center of the cap.
- Pull the plunger back to draw the correct dosage (refer to ?Dosage? below) into the syringe and remove it carefully.
- Clean the intended injection site with alcohol.
- Pinch the skin around the injection site, leaving about 2 cm on each side.
- Position the syringe at a 90-degree angle to your skin and swiftly insert the needle.
- Push the plunger down completely to empty the syringe, then withdraw it carefully.
For optimal lean muscle growth and fat loss:
Dosage Guidelines:- 40 mcg - 50 mcg daily Men:
- 10 mcg - 20 mcg daily Women:
IGF-1 should not be injected more than twice a day. A typical dosage cycle can last from 2 to 12 weeks. Children and adults prescribed IGF-1 for growth deficiencies should consult a healthcare provider for appropriate dosing.
Side EffectsThe side effects of IGF-1 can resemble those associated with other growth hormones, including abnormal tissue growth (acromegaly) and potential harm to the joints, liver, and heart. Common side effects may include joint and muscle pain, headaches, and nausea. Additionally, IGF-1 may lower blood glucose levels, leading to a risk of hypoglycemia. Researchers have also linked IGF-1 to an increased risk of certain cancers, including those affecting the lungs, breast, colorectal area, and prostate.
