Indications for Dropoetin:

Dropoetin is expertly formulated to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney failure, effectively supporting both pediatric and adult patients undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. This powerful medication is also recommended for adults suffering from severe renal-derived anemia who display clinical symptoms but have not yet begun dialysis.

Additionally, Dropoetin plays a vital role in managing anemia in adult cancer patients (with non-myeloid malignancies) undergoing chemotherapy, significantly reducing their reliance on blood transfusions.

In HIV-infected adults undergoing zidovudine therapy, Dropoetin is indicated for managing anemia when endogenous levels are ?500 mU/ml.

For adults with moderate anemia (hematocrit levels of 33-39%, hemoglobin levels of 10-13 g/dL) scheduled for major elective surgery and anticipated to require more blood than can be collected through autologous means, Dropoetin is prescribed to facilitate autologous blood collection and minimize the need for allogeneic blood transfusions. This treatment is recommended only when blood conservation methods are insufficient for surgeries expected to require a significant blood volume (4 or more units for females or 5 or more units for males).

Dropoetin is also beneficial for enhancing erythropoiesis during the perioperative period, helping to reduce the likelihood of allogeneic blood transfusions and correct postoperative anemia in adult patients without iron deficiency undergoing major elective orthopedic surgeries. This application is limited to patients with moderate anemia (e.g., Hb 10-13 g/dL) lacking access to autologous predonation programs and who are expected to experience moderate blood loss (900 to 1800 ml).

Finally, Dropoetin is indicated for treating anemia in patients with Low or Intermediate 1-risk Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), specifically for those with hemoglobin levels below 10 g/dL.
